The Old English Bowling League.
There is an Old English Bowling League based in and around the Havant , Hampshire area whose records go back to 1924.
The teams in the league field four triples rinks who each play 25 ends . One point is awarded for winning rink plus 2 additional bonus points for the highest aggregate score, i.e. a total of 6 points for each match . League matches are played on Wednesday evenings and there are also separate cup competitions played on Monday evenings.
Prior to the 2019 season the teams that have made up the league were:
. Bellair Club Havant
.Bosham West Sussex
. The Legionnaires
. The Royals
The Legionnaires and the Royals each play their matches at the British Legion club, Hayling Island.
Alverstoke had competed in this league but withdrew some years ago as the logistics of teams travelling to and from Gosport in the early evening created too many problems.
At the 2019 League AGM, David Jones and Dennis Dowsett proposed that a sixth team made up of players recruited from Titchfield but in all other aspects independent, be admitted to the league. This was accepted unanimously by the other clubs. Bellair kindly offered offered the use of their ground and facilities for the Exiles to stage their home matches. The Exiles played their first competitive fixture away at Bellair on Wednesday 8th May 2019.
